I think I might spend $40 to put an RnR link up on FARK.com for a week. Their classifieds are front-paged and there aren't that many that rotate (current ones: http://www.fark.com/classifieds.html).

We don't need to advertise at all, really, but FARK is essentially an atheist site as far as I'm concerned, so there is a large potential audience there.

Thoughts?

I'd think a vote on something like that would be important. Some people might get a bit upset at the idea of new ppl coming in and taking over.

i don't really like the idea pf advertising too much because i don't want this to become a very large forum (although that is purely for selfish reasons).

Haha why don't you just advertise the New RnR T-shirts (http://www.rantsnraves.org/showthread.php?t=6762). Two birds one stone.

I don't mind, but it might be best to get the latest vote and argument discussion settled before advertising to get a new influx of people here.

How are we doing without, in terms of regular posters, posts per day, threads opened per day?

Yeah, definitely. I don't think an ad for 1 week will make this "a very large forum".
How would you describe RnR is such an ad?

Sure, why not?

It's not necessary by any means. Just thought it'd be a cheap experiment. Our activity has been steadily increasing since stabilizing in December.

It might be interesting to see if the link has any effect. I say go for it.

I actually think it is a good idea especially since you are only talking about a week. Bringing the existence of RnR to a larger audience, whether they eventually post here or not, is a good way to spread the idea of RnR.

I am sure the mileage of others will vary.

I'm all for getting people from Fark, especially those who aren't involved with the whole IIDB thing. "Outsiders" sound good

More valuable posters from other places can move us out from that and keep RnR in good discussion (albeit with fresh stuff)

I'm in favour. It's an experiment. You won't get hordes in a week. Some people will come and be attracted; others will come and be repulsed when someone tell them to fuck off. Those (if any) who stay will do so because they think it's their sort of board. They might even tell their like-minded friends.

I don't think anyone coming from FARK would be repulsed if they're told to fuck off. Even FARK's fundy trolls like Bevets take brutal beatings day after day yet stick around.

Okay then, if we do this we need to come up with a suitable headline.

I think it's an interesting idea. I'm all for it. I'm a TotalFarkette but I don't post very much. There certainly seems to be quite a few of us keeping the flames alive over there. ;-)

I think you might attract a lot of one liner trolls.
