What I need:

Seven of the leanest, meanest, no-good backstabbin' varmints on this 'ere board (actually two or three, since I'm reposting this from HH (http://www.heathen-hangout.com/forum1/showthread.php?t=8189) :p).

What you get:

To play, the best boardgame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_%28board_game%29) ever known to man or beast. To conquer the world (well, all the important parts, anyway). To revel in the thrill of manipulating your friends and to walk upon their broken dreams with a well-practiced look of utter disdain gracing your noble features.

Welcome to Diplomacy (http://www.dipbounced.com/). Who's in?

Are noobies ok? If so, I'm in. My friends used to all play this and it seemed interesting.

Welcome to Diplomacy (http://www.dipbounced.com/). Who's in?

Are you proposing we go there and play?

Or are you intending to run a Play-by-Post/PM game here?

If the latter, then I'm in.

Yeah, I was proposing the Dipbounced site. It's the best online version I know, mainly because one person (me) can be a GM, which gives things an outside chance of running smoothly.

Hmmm...

I'm not keen on their enforced anonymity and stuff (or on the fact that I would have to go somewhere else to play, rather than be able to simply PM people here).

Is there any reason why you can't GM the game by processing the turns offline and simply posting the turn reports and/or maps here? This board allows attachments, so there is no need to fiddle about with image hosting or anything.

I wanted to play, but the site was blocked by my company's filter.

Stupid nazis, wanting m to work instead of goof off.

Tell you what - I'm happy to Referee a game based here, rather than play.

I've never run an online game of Diplomacy before (but then most of you might not have played in a game before), so it will be a fun learning experience for all of us.

I own the board game - so I have the rules and examples in front of me (as well as them being available at the link that Jinx gave).

Are people interested in playing here? The speed would be at a turn every 48 or 72 hours, much slower paced than the Werewolf games - but could happily run concurrently with them...

(Although I don't wish to steal Jinx's thunder; so if you want to - and are able to - play at the other site then feel free to go for that instead. Or as well.)

Is there interest in playing a game here? Should it be noobies only? (But with a peanut gallery for onlookers and armchair generals, of course...)

I quite like the anonymity, if only because it encourages a bit of role playing. One of the most entertaining aspects of GMing is watching all the poorly researched historical personas :p That said, it's not obligatory in a friendly game (which this will be), if all the players are happy to waive it.

I also like the fact that Dipbounced calculates stuff and presents images for me. Takes a lot of hard work out of my hands (albeit at the expense of making it slightly harder to get going). Also, there are a few HHers who aren't members of this board, or don't post here any more, and presumably vice versa, so Dipbounced is nice common ground.

Anyway, everyone who's contemplating playing needs to sign up on the site, so I can make a game and reserve spots (I need the usernames of the people I'm reserving them for)

We now theoretically have all the spaces filled (with a couple to spare). But given how often people tend to drop out of these things, I think it's got to be first come, first served, according to people posting their Dipbounced usernames.

Three signed up (on HH) so far.

I'm just in the process of writing myself an application to automate map production, then I'll probably try to run a game here.

If someone falls out, I'd be happy to pick up a slot. And I'm definitely in for the next game.

I'd be up for that, I've never played Diplomacy before but I keep meaning to give it a try.

Cool.

I've written a program that will let me input which countries belong to who and will auto-generate me a map based on that information.

I'm currently trying to make it clever, so that it can automatically resolve the movement of armies (and the resultant fights).

When I'm reasonably happy with it, I'll start a "sign-up" thread.

I'm getting a bit confused. Who's in my game, who's in MonkeyPants'?

Anyone who wants to play on Dipbounced (http://www.dipbounced.com/) (which is far more awesome than it looks) needs to sign up and post or PM me their username.

-Ahhh, Diplomacy. I managed a small diplomacy sub-forum for a while over at 1bcciv.com, here (http://www.1bcciv.com/Forum61-1.aspx). For people unfamiliar with the game I suggest you read the excellent Information Thread (http://206.196.26.167/Topic2209452-61-1.aspx) that is posted there. As we switched to BOUNCED later on the move orders and such are listed in the standard used there, but that isn't all that important. You could also check out some of the games we played over there, they should be quite detailed.

-And Jinx, if you wish to, you are more than welcome to repost the information in that sub-forum over here, make alterations, etc.

Ok, I think that might be 7 names. I'll check and make the game over the weekend, if so.

Is there interest in running the game on FF itself? I'd be willing to mod if that was the case now that I've found a mapping software I really like.
