I've only even heard of these games since signing here but I think I have read enough to run a very simple one - ie no special roles. Based on the HP Lovecraft stories where town would b investigators and scum cultists.
Anyway there are so many listed already I'd have plenty more time to learn about it before it would come up.

put your name on the list, and play a few games to get the feel for it before you try running one.

I've learned from other things I'm much better at running/coming up with ideas for games than playing them.

Well, that makes you an expert, go for it.

I regret that I am but one person who can and will participate in this game.

some people are far better at being GM than playing.....

I pick up on this sort of thing pretty quick. If there's a game or so that looks interesting before I'll play.

I personally think it's better to just jump in the deep end. If you GM a game first, you will achieve a profound understanding of how to play - and win.

I see there are quite a few ahead and it seems like a typical game here takes about a week.

I can see the logic there, Shizz. I think perhaps your inexperience as a player might enable you to innovate more freely as a GM, unfettered by conventional mafia dogma.

I only played one or two games before GMing a successful game. It should be easy, especially if his game is bare-bones without a lot of special roles.

And Ishmael played loads but nobody seems to like his GMing much.

eta just realised I've no clue wtf has happened in mafia games but people seem to give Ish a lot of shit about it. And Tears has regular meltdowns. That's the other thing I've heard.

MattShizzle, I would be more than willing to let you cut in front of me.

I was thinking maybe 1 special role per side and a mayor (lead investigator.) I've read enough of the stories to make it interesting too. Thinking about set in where Innsmouth was more than 70 years after the events in "Shadow over Innsmouth." Trying to resettle the town and such.

well then you had a sophomore slump.

Just to make it clear well before - the basics:
EVERYONE votes who wants to for who to "lynch" during the day and for who to make "mayor"(or equivalent name in game unless not used)
At night, "scum" players pm their vote for who to "nightkill" to the GM.

I mean do I understand it right?

Its not so much a vote from scum. They should probably agree on what they're doing. But otherwise you've got it.

Also, the scum know each other and the townies don't, that is a key concept.

So is this game next?

MattShizzle

If it is (or when it is) let me know and know how to start it - I'm guessing when someone GMs a game they get mod power in the subforum for that game?

True.
But having separate factions for town appears to be a recipe for fail.
