Great time waster.

... and if anyone makes it through level 14, I'd appreciate some hints. :colbert:

14 was pretty simple. I just built three stationary gears with 4 wooden teeth on each gear. I arranged the gears in a slope, so that they would keep lifting up the wheels, so that the last gear could throw them into the goal. I saved the contraption, and I think you should be able to view it with this link: http://fantasticcontraption.com/?designid=606964 ETA: This game is pretty fun. +rep for you.

Thanks. I'm not sure I understand but it's worth a try. I've been building a lovely little cart and dragging it up, but the little wheels fall out. :crying:

Your link just takes you back to the main page. I don't think you can peek at other's designs until you've completed a level.

Where do you see level numbers? I only see names, and since I didn't count, I don't know what 14 is.

The tube one was infuriating. My first simple "walking up the walls" attempt didn't work, so I tried a much more complex thing. Nothing worked, then I discovered that my first machine DID work, but I had just placed the rotating wheels a few millimeters wrong. Gha!

That's similar to another solution I've seen and works well. I made it harder the first time I did it by trying to have an unfolding platform to provide a sturdy base for my rope. Did you look at my unpowered solution yet?

You can join multiple powered wheels together to get more torque. You just connect the top, bottom, left, and right control points of two wheels with water rods. There's a whole thread on their forum about catapult construction, and some people have even built catapults capable of launching the big payload cube in "Up the Hump". Here's a simpler example if you want to cheat off it: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=710061. One wheel could never turn that long lever.

Lol. Amazing. If you really zoom out it just keeps flapping around. It actually only goes through the goal that one time.

Incidentally, you don't have the option to look at other players' solutions until you finish the level yourself. But that wouldn't stop you from finding them in the forum.
That's what I thought too, but I'm only blocked from level 17. I can access any other level's solutions, even one's I haven't completed (like 18,19,&20). Oh, and I'm blocked from 1,4,&5 solutions even though I've completed them. Must be a glitch.

I created a two wheeled cart with a pivot that allowed the pink rectangle to spin when it hit the barrier. Then it was just a matter of timing.

-Actually, if you follow a link showing a solution before having solved the level itself the game will register that as your solution and the "other players' solutions" tab will be available to you for that level(Ex: Click the link to my 'Down Under' solution and play it through without having finished the level yourself. When the ball goes into the goal it registers as a win for you).

Lol. Amazing. If you really zoom out it just keeps flapping around. It actually only goes through the goal that one time.

What's really weird is that it behaves slightly differently on a Mac than a PC. It scores on either one, but on the Mac it eventually knocks the example triangle off the platform and plummets to its death.

Another thing I played with (http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=726591) is also different. On my Mac, the square eventually makes it to the goal as you'd expect. But on my PC at work, it gets about halfway and then goes kablooey. It would be epic fail, except... well, just watch it.

Beat unpossible / level 20:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=832562

That took a fuck load of trial and error.

I didn't look up a solution, but I did have to look up how some people had built catapults to get enough power. Even that wasn't enough, so I added the pinball-style flipper to give it an early little boost in speed. Made a lot of difference.

Neat idea with the flipper. I decided just to send up a powered wheel with the ball, and the result was the Yak-a-Pult (http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=657316). But I prefer my second solution - http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=745442.

I'm pretty sure it takes both the buggy pushing on the ramp and the wheel pulling on it to flip it up, and if they aren't lined up just right it's not going to work. That one took quite a bit of tweaking - as do most of the good contraptions.

You mean the rod that connects the payload ball to the right-side wheel of the buggy? Yeah, it needs to connect to the outside of that wheel so that as the wheel spins it can swing it into the goal.
